Pure sensory stroke due to midbrain haemorrhage limited to the spinothalamic pathway.

چکیده
A 62 year old man suddenly presented with a pure left sensory deficit involving only pain and temperature sensations. CT scan and MRI showed a small haemorrhage in the dorsolateral part of the right midbrain. This suggested a lesion limited to the right dorsal spinothalamic tract.

Pure sensory stroke from compression of putaminal haemorrhage: a case report
INTRODUCTION The literature rarely describes putaminal haemorrhage producing pure spinothalamic sensory deficit. Here reports a case of putaminal haemorrhage in which selective impairment of the spinothalamic sensory modality was due to the compression of the hematoma. CASE PRESENTATION A 57 year old hypertensive man presented with a pure sensory stroke(PSS), and CT scan showed a putaminal ha...

متن کاملFace-arm-trunk-leg sensory loss limited to the contralateral side in lateral medullary infarction: a new variant.
Two patients are reported on who experienced loss of pain and temperature sensation in the entire contralateral hemibody but sparing the ispsilateral face (pure sensory stroke pattern) related to acute lateral medullary infarction. In both patients MRI showed a notch-like retro-olivary ischaemic lesion in the ventromedial tegmentum with preservation of the far lateral medulla. The mediolateral ...
متن کاملPure sensory stroke. Clinical-radiological correlates of 21 cases.
BACKGROUND Although pure sensory stroke is a relatively common lacunar syndrome, the responsible lesions are often unidentified because of their small size. I reported 21 cases of pure sensory stroke in which the lesions could be identified by head computed tomography and/or magnetic resonance imaging and correlated the clinical findings with the radiological lesions. SUMMARY OF REPORT Eleven...
متن کاملSensory symptoms and signs and results of quantitative sensory thermal testing in patients with lacunar infarct syndromes.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Quantitative data on sensory impairment in stroke patients are limited. We measured the perception thresholds for temperature and thermal pain in patients with different lacunar syndromes, correlated the results with clinical and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings, and studied the long-term prognosis of sensory dysfunction. METHODS Quantitative thermal testing wa...
